Supervisor: Dr G C Stewart.
Clusters of galaxies are the most massive gravitationally bound objects known. Studies of the X-ray emitting intra-cluster gas, its relation with the galaxy distribution and measured evolution, provides significant constraints on evolutionary models of galaxies, groups and clusters. This research involves space and ground-based observations, supported by theoretical modelling and is taken in collaboration with the Institute of Astronomy Cambridge.
