Red Dwarfs Home

Red Dwarfs are cool, main sequence stars of less than one third of the mass of our sun. The majority of main sequence stars are of this kind. They have a long lifespan and are not hot enough to ever initiate helium fusion, so instead of becoming red giants at the end of their lives they simply contract and heat slowly. Due to their long lifespan, no red dwarfs have yet evolved off the main sequence.

Our red dwarf research includes examining the apparent deficit in M7 and M8-type red dwarf stars, and looking for cool red dwarf companions to DA white dwarfs.
