Research Interests:
Website of former PhD student in the X-ray and Observational Astronomy Group at the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Leicester. My supervisor is Professor Martin Barstow (University of Leicester). My research area is White Dwarf Stars currently using JPL's Galaxy Evolution Explorer Satellite to find the lost white dwarfs of Open Clusters, the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer spacecraft to unwrap the mysteries of the white dwarf atmosphere, the Hubble Space Telescope to probe the interstellar medium and the Samuel Oschin Telescope at the Palomar Observatory in California to detect double degenerate systems, and also to study the morphology of star clusters. My work centers around the star g191-b2b for which we have observed in multiple wavelengths, including the extreme ultraviolet with Leicester's JPEX, a sounding rocket borne observatory.

Dave's awesome list of public talks

Sir Arthur Clarke winner
In 2009 David won an “Arthur” for best student achievement for his work on interstellar medium physics.

Blue Peter Rocket
In the summer of 2008 I assisted "The Rocket Men" to launch a high power rocket for the children's TV show Blue Peter. Watch the episode here.
